We’ve been busy bees – and raised over £

Pub Quiz no.1 – Curler’s Rest

Our first pub quiz was a HUGE success, with the team making over £300!!! Thanks to everyone who made it along to Curler’s Rest, and showed us your support! It was a fun night, with great questions, fun activity rounds, and loads of raffle prizes won!

Graham Kerr Quiz

Formally known as the DEEB Quiz, the Graham Kerr Quiz took place as always. This fund raising event saw ALL the GU Expeditions working together to raise money. The annual quiz traditionally sees Prof. Downie creating the (difficult) Natural History round, and with most of the Quiz’s guests made up biology-based students, this is the round to win for glory! Every year the losing team win wooden spoons (which included our very own Gillian and Mhairi this year hahaha). All the Expeditions help with creating question and activity rounds, as well as providing refreshments for all 😀

Carnival – GU Union

We joined with the GU Afro-Carribean Society to celebrate a collaboration of culture, to fundraise for our Expedition. A fantastic night was had by all! It was an amazing success towards reaching our fundraising target. The night saw us sell handmade exotic masks, hand out loads of fun raffle prizes, award the best carnival attire, got everyone limboing, and crown the King and Queen of Carnival!

We’ve got some photos to show you…

Pub Quiz no.2 – QMU Jim’s Bar

Thanks for everyone who made it a long!

Music Shabang – QMU Jim’s Bar

We had a lovely night over at the QMU, filled with music and cakes! Instead of just having the band play, we thought it might be nice to open it up to the floor, so we had ourselves a wee Open Mic Night! WOOOO!

Gary’s Mates Band‘s front man, Adam, got up to open the night with a couple of his own songs as well as a few covers. Our very own George then took the stage for a short while with her guitar and gave us a few tunes, and with a bit of persuasion we had Mark Yates (Gillian’s better half) up to rounding off the evening!

We also had some homemade cakes that went down a treat, as well as a raffle being called! Thoroughly good evening, big thanks to all who came and joined it and here are a couple of photos of the acts!

On Monday 21st of May the team took to the Highlands and climbed the highest point of the British Isles! All 4,408ft of Ben Nevis!  It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky; with buzzing insects and the chirping birds helping us along the way.  It was a tough climb, with the boys heading off ahead, and the girls sticking together – to slowly but surly reach the top together! It took a brutal 6 hours for the girls to reach the top (4-5 hours for the boys), but it wasn’t over there, with a 3 hour descend still to come! All in all it was worth it, and we raised well over £1,000 from sponsorship – so thank you for all your support!
